Title:

TA 24 - Systems Assessment of Electricity Generation Using Biomass & Coal in CFBC

Type:

Technology Assessments Report

Author(s):

A. Cottrell, J. Nunn, A. Urfer, L. Wibberley

Summary:

This study was conducted to provide a comparative systems assessment for the use of circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) for power generation using coal, coal-biomass, and 100% biomass. It includes life cycle analysis (LCA), techno-economics and externality costs for electricity from a 100 MW station.

It includes sufficient detail and disaggregation of data to enable comparison with other competing technologies and to provide a benchmark data for future studies.

The study includes a range of LCA indicators, including resource energy and water consumption, greenhouse gas, NOx, and SOx emissions, and solid waste.
