Summary:

This report gives a preliminary techno-economic assessment of a concept process for post combustion capture of CO2 from a pf-fired power plant. The process flowsheet was provided by DUT Pty Ltd.

CO2 capture from power plant flue gases is widely practiced for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). The dominant technology is solvent absorption using MEA. CO2 capture from power station flue gases differs from capture for EOR operations by the larger quantities of CO2 involved, and the present low value of the captured CO2 – ie the abatement value.

Although the process is unproven, the component technologies are mature and supported by detailed thermodynamics and operating experience in other gas processing applications. The most significant unknown is the optimal configuration of the process – there will be a trade-off between power consumption, CO2 captured and capital costs for most applications.
