Summary: |
This report summarises the results of the CCSD project 4.1, “Improved techniques for the prediction of NO formation from char N? The major outcomes of the project are presented here, and additional details of the mechanistic aspects of char N chemistry are given in the PhD thesis of Patricia Nicholls.
The principal objectives of project 4.1 were to determine the proportion of char N converted to NOx over a wide range of coal types, stoichiometries, temperatures and burn-offs; develop a predictive framework for the conversion of char N to NOx based on the experimental results and on the results of computational studies which include the effects of gas phase and heterogeneous chemistry and inter and intra particle transport processes; and to Incorporate the results and understanding in a form suitable for input into furnace models and into simple predictive correlations.
