Title:

TA 54 - Co-firing of Coal and Biomass in 150kW Pilot-Scale Boiler Simulation Furnace

Type:

Technology Assessments Report

Author(s):

M H Zulfiqar, B Moghtaderi, T F Wall, C Spero, D Holcombe

Summary:

The report documents pilot scale combustion studies of coal and biomass co-firing undertaken by the Centre. It presents the results from co-firing experiments in a 150 kW Boiler Simulation Furnace, located in ACIRL facility in Queensland, Australia. Four Australian coals and three types of biomass fuels were tested in the combustion study to understand the influence of biomass type, moisture content, initial feed sizes into the mill and pre-mill blending ratios on boiler performance. It is a companion study to the earlier work on the milling behaviour of coal-biomass blends.
