Summary:

The coal supply and utilisation industry recognises that it is essential to keep abreast of leading edge thinking on sustainability as the role for coal is explored in transition to sustainable energy systems.

CCSD Project 1.4: Broader Sustainability Review addresses this complex but important issue by bringing together in a workshop format key thinkers on sustainability from across Australia. The biennial event is designed to provide industry with advice to inform its strategic planning within a sustainability context.

This report assembles the discussion and outcomes from 3 ‘Explorums’ (small exploratory forums) which brought together relevant opinion leaders. The first two addressed the question “What social change is necessary for the development of a sustainable energy system for Australia?”. The third focused on “The feasibility of the various stakeholders in Australia’s electricity sector cooperating to develop a sustainable energy system”.
