Title:

RR 82 - Mercury Deposition: Model Development, Validation and Application

Type:

Research Reports

Author(s):

Peter Nelson, Upma Dutt, Anthomy L Morrison, Vladimir Strezov

Summary:

The study reports on extensive progress on atmospheric measurements of mercury concentrations and deposition. It describes field measurements of wet deposition of mercury, and measurements of gas phase mercury species which can be used to estimate dry deposition of mercury; these measurements are the first comprehensive data obtained in Australia. The report concludes that, while power stations often make relatively modest contributions to urban air pollution issues in Australia, emissions of SO2 and NOx remain major issues for the export coal industry. Similarly, fine particles and associated trace toxic metals will also be a continuing issue for coal utilisation.
