Project 1.5 - Application Of Cleaner Production Principles And Tools

Project Description
The overall aim of the project is to foster the uptake of Cleaner Production and Eco-Efficiency in existing operations in the coal industry, from mining towards utilisation for power generation and iron making, and processing of by-products. Under this overall aim, the project has three technical objectives:

  1. To review the applicability of Cleaner Production principles and tools, and suggest ways these general principles and tools can be customised to the needs and opportunities in the coal industry.
  2. To assess the current level of uptake of Cleaner Production in the coal industry, and develop case studies of best and innovative Cleaner Production practices for public disclosure.
  3. To pilot test the application of selected Cleaner Production tools in collaboration with selected coal operations.
