Current Power Generation

Project 2.1 - Emissions from current power generation

Project Description
The project will evaluate current and emerging environmental impacts of coal use in PF fired plant. These include emissions of NOx, SO2, trace elements and fine particles to the atmosphere, and potential release of trace elements to water. The project extends previous work by developing techniques to use measures of emissions and releases as inputs to techniques for the assessment, quantification and reduction of any environmental impacts. These emissions are already subject to legislative measures such as load based licensing and reporting mechanisms such as the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI), but there is a need to use the best sources of data to assess and reduce the actual environmental impact.
