Transitional Power Generation

Project 3.3 - Power Systems Evaluation

Project Description
This project will research advanced systems for power generation utilising coal. It aims to provide the basic process system technical performance data required by the Centre. that is essential input to the other projects in Programs 1 & 4. This project will link closely with other projects to review emerging technology options that could be considered for implementation. Issues concerning combination of technology units (eg gasification, air separation, turbine systems, CO2 recovery, gas cleaning etc) will be considered in the context of their impact on coal selection and performance and with respect to research and development needs.Current technical knowledge of Australian coal performance (eg in gasification & PFBC systems) will be applied to advanced power systems. Process modelling techniques and coal performance data from CCSD research will be combined to enable process simulation so that coal property impacts can be assessed. The results of CCSD research will be encapsulated in a form which can be used easily to predict the technical performance of a variety of systems for power generation.
